Apple Readies New Framework To Let iPhone Users Migrate App Data To Android (9to5mac.com) 12
An anonymous reader quotes a report from 9to5Mac: Apple has been working on a new framework called AppMigrationKit, which will be compatible with devices running iOS 26.1 and later, as well as iPadOS 26.1 and later. Like iOS and iPadOS 26.1, the framework is currently in beta and will allow developers to include their app's data during the migration process between Apple and non-Apple devices (which, for now, essentially means Android). Interestingly, Apple notes that this framework is not intended for data migration between iOS and iPadOS, but rather exclusively to and from non-Apple devices: "AppMigrationKit only supports migration to and from non-Apple platforms, such as Android. The system doesn't use the framework for migration between iOS or iPadOS devices. The framework also has no functionality in iOS apps running in visionOS or in macOS on Apple silicon. The framework ignores calls from Mac apps built with Mac Catalyst." The AppMigrationKit documentation can be found here.

Email is okay for smaller files, but often there is a fairly low attachment size limit. With modern phones that have high pixel count cameras, and with movies, you quickly run into those limits.
I have this issue as my wife has an iPhone. She does at least have Google Photos, so most of the sharing is done that way.

Why would you have to relay a large file through an upload to server(s) and back down to the person standing next to you? If you're showing your age, then you should remember when that was possible via bluetooth or IR.
FWIW, one cross platform solution is SnapDrop:

I clicked on that and uBlock flagged it as badware. I looked into it and apparently it was bought by "LimeWire" earlier in the year and is uploading your files to the cloud. I would use one of the forks or alternatives like PairDrop instead of that.

On Android I use CX File Explorer, these two work together pretty well for me over a LAN or direct phone to phone either way
Good luck with that (Score:3)
Good luck with that. I can't even migrate app data between phones in Android, even within the same product family.
I recently migrated from an older Pixel phone to a newer one and it could never complete, I just get constant unexplained error messages. Easier to just start fresh.
