AppleCare One Lets Users Insure Multiple Apple Devices For $19.99, Accepts Four-Year-Old Hardware (apple.com) 23

Apple today announced AppleCare One, a insurance subscription service that covers multiple products under a single plan for $19.99 per month. The service protects up to three devices, with additional products costing $5.99 monthly each.

AppleCare One provides identical coverage to AppleCare Plus, including battery protection, unlimited accidental damage repairs, and priority support. The service accepts products up to four years old, compared to AppleCare Plus's 60-day enrollment window, though Apple requires older devices to be in "good condition" and may conduct diagnostic testing. Headphones must be less than one year old for eligibility. Theft and Loss coverage comes standard for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. The service goes live tomorrow.

There isn't even the slightest attempt to make this ad seem like an article. This is just spam.

...which is why these companies offer it.
    • In 4 years, that's $960. Which is enough to outright buy a NEW phone (and one 4 years newer, 4 years from now, vs the 4 year old replacement model you'd get on a claim.)
      • 3 devices covered. That's $320, a bit better than $960.

        • Up to three devices. It's not really divided by three. The same price of you have 1 device or three.
        • Lets assume there is a 10% odds of failure. If you own 10 devices, 1 will fail within warranty. If you own 3 devices, you (rounding) have a 1/3 chance that 1 of them fails., that's 9/10 statistical odds that all 3 devices you insure don't break and don't need care coverage. Thus, you are better off saving the money in an interest bearing savings account for 4 years. $960 at 4% APR becomes $1,220~. That gets you not just a whole new phone, but a tier or two up in price. Thus you start to see why Apple would
    • Not always. I've had quite a few profitable payoffs.

    • And you still have to pay a “copay” for any claim.

    • I nominally agree, however it does cover theft for iphone, ipad, and watch. Mind you, so do some credit cards, but that's not nothing depending on where you live.

One thing to point out is that it doesn't work on older headphones. I think this is mostly about about the Airpods Max, which have a reputation for dying from simply being worn and having sweat build up inside. After about 16 or so months, they stop connecting reliably and other symptoms develop.

I suspect so many airpods max have been breaking from

  • Regular use or only exception weirdness? If this covers a free battery for every device eventually, that would definitely provide some value that is pretty reliable (most Apple devices would benefit from a battery swap between two and four years in).

But if it only covers "battery fails", some rare event, then whatever.

    Holy ripoff Batman...

Then again... Apple. They know their customers have too much disposable.

    • If you have three devices it's not too bad. If not, it's pretty bad.

      $20 a month is $240 a year.

      For 3 devices, that's $80/year.

AppleCare on 3 devices is already a bit more than that, so you do save a little money if you have an iPhone, IPad and maybe an AirPods or something. Or maybe save a lot if it's usable on Macs as well. But I think AppleCare is around $250 for lots of stuff, so you save a tiny bit.

It's completely useless if you're in Europe where all that stuff much be warrantied for 3 years anyways (so Apple actually builds the price of AppleCare into the device cost)

  • After owning my first iphone I got a good taste of apple and iOS and I dont want to put any more money on apple products, when this iphone dies I am not buying another one, it does seem like good hardware but I am not happy with the app store and not able to install from any other sources, so the next phone I buy will be an android varient and hopefully not something hooked to google as I don't like big corporate tech companies datamining, maybe/hopefully FairPhone or PinePhone will have something for the U

This sounds like the cookie cutter complaint I hear about Apple phones/tablets from every Android user I've run across....

Honestly? I've had my share of Android tablets and handsets, as well as owning pretty much every major iPhone revision from the very first release through a 16 Pro Max I use currently.

ALL the "high end" smartphones with larger screens and decent feature sets are really expensive these days, vs what people used to commonly pay for phones. That's because what you're buying now is a pocket

  • Milking the consumer. limit the device age so they can sell more. Will Apple start pushing ads in MacOS too?

So Apple has some grift where they extract another $240 out of the saps using their products. And what they don't mention up top is that if you want to repair or replace a device, you get whacked with a "service fee".
  • The service goes live tomorrow.

So will we be seeing an ad for it in the Wallet app?
