Apple Pulls iPadOS 18 For M4 iPad Pro After Bricking Complaints (macrumors.com) 23

Apple's iPadOS 18 update is no longer available after some iPad Pro owners found that it bricked their devices. MacRumors reports: There are reports on Reddit from iPad Pro users who had an interruption in the installation process, leading to an iPad that refused to turn on. A total replacement was required for affected users. Not all M4 iPad Pro owners have had an issue installing the update, and it could be linked to installing the new iOS 17.7 update before installing iOS 18. Apple will make the software available again when the underlying problem has been addressed.

If you don't want to risk breaking your equipment, you shouldn't be a beta tester.

As a long time iPhone user, it is sad to see the continued decline of Apple.

4 generations of iPhone that you can layout in a row and most people unable to see much difference between them. And now this. Didn't Apple *test* their software before rolling out?

For the past 10 years, it is almost a no-brainer to install the latest iOS updates as soon as available. Zero maintenance effort for all the Apple devices in the family is *the* reason I kept buying Apple. If their quality declined to a point where I have to treat Apple devices as a PC again, then I might as well buy something else which doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Apple and many other companies, like MS, just let the general users test for free. Companies don't really have internal QA testings these days like the old days. Others and I still see very old bugs that still exist. :(

      • Iâ(TM)ve written software all my life. And Iâ(TM)ve run into bugs that couldnâ(TM)t be fixed with a description because a user did something that I had never anticipated. Most years you will find new macOS developers complaining that on one or more days the year is displayed incorrectly, for example. You will only find this bug on the last or first days of the year. I had a bug that would only strike between midnight UTC and midnight local time on the first day of the month (and since this wa
    • Why do you want iPhones to look different? Google for some photos of a 1956 Porsche. I would be quite happy to replace my iPhone with an identical looking one with newer technology.

Are you advocating change for change's sake or something? Speaking personally, I am a huge fan of the form factor not changing every generation, I like being able to keep spares from generation to generation and not having to throw away cases and screen protectors because someone arbitrarily decided to change the aspect ratio by a few percent or make the device uselessly thinner.

  • No issues after update.... So people acting like Windows never bricked any devices after updating....the black screen of death, anyone !!!!?? LOLOLOL
  • There is news that iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 can be unbricked by connecting it to another phone (wirelessly), and earlier phones by connecting to a Mac with a cable. If you have an older phone and no Mac they should be able to do this in any Apple Store, or if you know anyone with a Mac.

Surprise your boss. Get to work on time.
