Apple Announces WWDC 2024 Event For June 10 (macrumors.com) 24

Apple today announced that its 35th annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is set to take place June 10 through 14, 2024. It'll be an online event open to all developers at no cost. MacRumors reports: Apple will hold a WWDC 2024 keynote event on Monday, June 10 to show off iOS 18, iPadOS 18, tvOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2. The keynote event will be available on the Apple Developer app, the Apple website, and YouTube, with Apple also planning to share videos and information all week long.

Though WWDC 2024 is an online event, Apple is once again planning a special event for select developers and students, which is set to take place on June 10 at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California. Attendees will be able to watch the keynote and State of the Union presentations at Apple Park, as well as meet Apple employees and attend the Apple Design Awards. Apple will provide developers with additional information about WWDC 2024 through email, the Apple Developer app, and the Apple Developer website.

      Cuz the WFH crowd are so dang comfortable in their jammies and doin' Da Toobin during video calls?

      Srsly I think the WFH crowd does not want to bother with congregating around other living human beings in public venues. That would easily explain GrubHub & DoorDash and paid dogwalkers ... and certain Slashdotters.

      Perhaps the WFH are just waiting for a jack to become available so they can plug into The Matrix.

      Like you, I prefer the old, live, real, in-person events with some playing of topical videos as long as they are not too many or too long.

        I agree.

        The videos are too sterile. There's no Proxy Excitement generated by the in-hall Participants, as those not in Meatspace attendance experience the Reaction (usually good; sometimes not) of the Audience.

      Because the audience for WWDC consists of tens of thousands of people and in-person events are really limited in spots that you need to participate in a lottery to get tickets?

      The in-person event spots are really limited to maybe 1000 people or less. Lotteries are run just to get those coveted spots (that you still have to pay for travel

      • Having it online also means everyone gets a chance to see it live, and a recording of it will be made for future reference. Plus, there are probably lots of people who want to travel, but cannot for various reasons - including the cost of it all.

        I think having it online is perfect for the WFH developer, the student studying programming who cannot travel or pay for travel (or convince their parents to pay for travel), etc.

    • Sorry to break it to you, but there never was a 'normal'. Just a brief typical that you happened to drop in the middle of. Everything has always changed.

      The pandemic was a disruptive event. Some of the adaptations were beneficial and have been retained, like WFH and online events, and some were not and have been reverted. That's just evolution in action. It will suit some and not suit others. Survival of the fittest.

      I used to make a point of blocking the time out for these keynotes so I could watch them live without interruption - Steve Jobs' keynotes were something to watch. But, even with all the heavy production they're putting into the current online-only keynotes, Tim Cook and the team just aren't even remotely engaging like that. So nowadays I just wait until that evening and read a summary on Engadget or Macrumors or wherever.

      Believe me; they're working on it. They just need a way to Salt the Data. Or something. . . [shrug]

  • Apple needs to pause and just fix their bugs and other issues. Also, stop doing yearly releases.
