Apple Releases Public Beta of Apple Music For Web (betanews.com) 13
An anonymous reader shares a report: Apple Music doesn't work on traditional Linux distributions like Ubuntu or Fedora. It does, however, work on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. Chromebook users can take advantage of the Apple Music Android app from the Play Store. Traditional Linux users, however, are sadly left out of the party. This week, this changes, as Apple Music finally comes to the web -- in beta. This is something many other streaming music services, such as Spotify and Google, already offer. Better late than never, eh? This means traditional Linux users can finally enjoy Apple Music by simply visiting a website.

I've been an apple fanboy for years. I currently subscribe to apple music. I use an iPhone & MBP.
Spotify is a much better service, the only reason I currently use apple music is better CarPlay & Siri integration. Getting off apple music is one reason I'm eyeing a switch to android & linux.

Doesn't look like there is support for icloud music library on the web app; i logged in but only have apple music service. I wish they'd add this feature, but maybe apple's more interested in flogging their streaming crap.
Yup, this will be the 'gateway drug' for Apple to push people to iOS devices, not to enable other platforms to use its service(s). They'll cripple the web version just enough to make it unusable vs. the app versions.
(And yes, I realize they have an Android app already).

I don't give a frack about their subscription service. I just want a way to put my MPE/AAC library onto my iPhone from my Linux box. You know, what you have to use iTunes to do?

I thought any network-attached storage (NAS) device's app could download audio files from your NAS, cache them, and play them.

How many of these existing "APPS THAT PLAY MUSIC" on desktop Linux are capable of playing rented music? Free software alone cannot implement the digital restrictions management that rental providers require.
