Apple Starts Collecting Data For Apple Maps in Canada

Apple has issued a short statement on its website and in various newspapers announcing Apple Maps plans in Canada. From a report: The company plans to drive around the country with cars equipped with a ton of sensors in order to improve Apple Maps in Canada. Apple doesn't say when it plans to finish scanning Canadian roads and processing data. If you live in Canada, it could take a few months before you notice any change. Last year, Apple announced that it was in the process of rebuilding Apple Maps from the ground up. And you can already see some improvements in parts of the U.S. with more detailed maps, better representations of pedestrian and green areas, more accurate building shapes, etc.

Waze already does that. Quite a few cities also have pothole reporting apps.

I used to live in Montreal. The city decided to make things easier by having an app to report sections of street that did not have potholes.

But on the bright side, Canada has only the one street, so Apple's job should be pretty easy.

I just recently saw an Apple Car with fancy cameras on top around my country, something most my friends and work colleagues all were surprised, meaning it's rare or something of a novelty.

I'm not currently part of "the Apple ecosystem" so I cannot comment on previously existing Apple Maps support around here. But it can safely be said Apple is betting big lately in the region, especially in brick-and-mortar marketing and telecom-sponsored iPhone sales. My own guesstimate points to Portugal being a somewhat
