I'd lay pretty good odds that this includes the changes to quicktime to let it work with those new MPEG4 enabled cell phones.

  • I just redownloaded only to find out it's 6.0.2. Is this only for Macs? I also see no mention of 6.1 on their site.

This update has broken TruPlaya [lostminds.com], a Video Player which uses Quicktime but allows you to play movies fullscreen even if you don't buy/have QuicktimePRO.

I can still play the movies in TruPlaya, but i can't Pause/Stop/Reverse, etc. them any more :/

For what it's worth: iSync 1.0 is also available via Software Update.

"iSync 1.0 is the first official release after the iSync 1.0 Beta release, and includes scheduled synchronization and improved Palm OS device connectivity and reliability"
  • After running SW update and leaving it running overnight, I got up this morning to find the Mac telling me to restart, as expected. Clicked the restart button, then a strange thing happened, it kind of did a strange half shutdown / log-out thing and came back-up within about 30 seconds.
Now it was very early, so I wasn't too attentive, sorry if it's a little vague :) A quick look look at my uptime confirmed it didn't reboot.
Anyone else experience this? Am I going mad? The Mac seems to be running fine.

I noticed the update yesterday and installed it. The new fullscreen mode changes are sweet. It switches to and from fullscreen mode much faster now and the Command-1,2,3 keys change the size of the video while you're in fullscreen.. very nice.
  • Here [apple.com] is apples KB document on Quicktime 6.1. It includes what are new features, what's required to update, and how to update (like the last part is hard, but oh well...).

Note this update is ONLY for Macs and ONLY for Mac OS 10.1.5 or higher. The AppleCare docu contains instructions on how to update for OS 9 but I believe thats part of a template that they forgot to remove.

If you are anal and a perfectionist and like to annoy support representatives, contact them using this [apple.com] page. Unfortunately, they don't have direct email, probably because of all the Mac haters ;)
    • From your link: System Requirements To use QuickTime 6.1, your computer should meet these system requirements. Mac OS PowerPC G3, or PowerPC G4 microprocessor Mac OS X 10.1.5 or later A minimum of 128 MB of memory (RAM) Windows Intel Pentium or compatible microprocessor Windows 98 Windows Millennium Edition (Me) Windows NT Windows 2000 Windows XP A minimum of 64 MB of memory (RAM) -- It looks like the update is for windows as well.
  • Authoxy [hopto.org]. QuickTime 6.1 is only available through Software Update at present (not standalone installer), which will not connect through firewalls since the 10.2 Jaguar upgrade was released. This app allows Software Update to connect through firewalls and download updates. ..k
