Didn't you read the story? He said it was a MMORPG! Zing!! ;)

Played it for two weeks. Hated it. Pined for Ultima of all things. At least people looked different there, and not everything would follow you for 15 screens to kill you.
    • Is it just me...or is this game deathly boring?

It isn't just you. When I read about the game and how it had X million happy users I was excited to try it. I tried it for about three or four hours and was bored out of my ass. I can't understand why something as lame as this is so popular. I'll tell you what was fun: Diablo 2. Now that was fun. Of course, is wasn't massive multiplayer and the universe wasn't persistent, but it was still more fun. Maybe I'm just a lame old fart, I dunno.

    • I just have a problem with MMRPG's in general. Maybe it's because I have a 3 year old in the house, or that I'm leveling up without a real story, or that I'm antisocial.

Either way, I prefer a game I can pause, a game that tells a story, and a game that makes me feel like I've done something other than gotten my Mage up to level 50.
    • Unfortunately this game missed out it's prime time on the mac. Perhaps back in the days of Diablo I could have had the patience to play this game. Now with college I just can't justify playing this game for any length of time.

On the flip side I signed up for the free CD and that came pretty quick. One can always use another coaster! ;)
  • This came out ages ago and was posted on every other mac site.

    this is anti-news.
  • As a mac owner, I've little experience in these games. I'm gonna try it.
  • ... but I'm waiting for Neverwinter nights.

Hey man, I spent many days of my youth pouring over the AD&D rules, playing games, reading rules, debating over rules when the 3 minute encounter with the half-orc was taking 5 hours, etc etc.

And now, 16 years after I played my first game, I still remember the damn rules!

With Neverwinter nights, I finally get to make use of the part of my brain dedicated to THac0, weapon speeds, how many electrum pieces are in a platinum piece, the material components for "Burning Hands", etc.

(It's hard for me to play a live D&D game these days, so computer will do).

And the v3 rules aren't *that* much different then the v1 rules, are they? :)

That way, I can use my immmense memory of the AD&D
    • ... then you'll be really disappointed.

NWN looked good, until they announced they were dropping the MacOS and Linux toolsets. There went my reason to buy the damn thing.

NWN is also not a "massive" morpg, just a morpg. This is arguably better than the massive approach, but is a whole different animal.

And, the v3 rules are completely different than v1 and v2... in substance. The names are the same, which messes me up more than I care to think about. :)

NWN recently decided to not implement languages and differing vision systems, as well, which made me somewhat surprised and annoyed. (on the vision particularly, considering that they'd implemented it successfully in BG1 and BG2)

"How do you hurt a man who's lost everything? Give him back something broken."

You guys claiming yourself geeks are just little children trying to impress everyone with your knowledge you probably got some Gaming sites review of Lineage. Sorry to sound like a Flame Bait or a Troller, but a RPG of ANY KIND doesn't need a OpenGL or 128 MEGS of RAM to make it "good." If you ever decide to go back and use your brains, you might realized their is more then games like NMW out there.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy almost ever RPG, from Moria to Baldur's Gate. I enjoy simpler games like Moria more then almost ANY RPG out there today. It's not that I hate newer RPG's these days, but today companies developing games are to busy dwelling on "more realistic graphics" or "better texture's," just to make a better profit. It really pains me to see things like that, when really all you need is a good plot with most RPG's. Sure this is my opinion and it may sound crazy, but compare how long it takes you to beat a game like Rogue or Moria then compare it to how long it takes to beat Baldur's Gate 2. Their is extreme difference in time and quality of plot.

Did you even read our posts? We were talking about NWN, off-topic, admittedly, but that had nothing to do with Lineage.

"You guys claiming yourself geeks are just little children trying to impress everyone with your knowledge you probably got some Gaming sites review of Lineage."

Nah. We're little children that really wanted to like Neverwinter Nights, until they took the keys to the kingdom and made them windows-only.

      "Bite me. It's fun!"

  • It seems an evil wizard has cursed the denizens of lineage with KNEECAPS OF STONE thus rendering my character unable to walk at a greater than 2 tiles per minute pace! Oh, and apparently blinded them so most non-magic attacks miss. Maybe I'll go to the focus group I was invited to in Austin and ask them why? :)
  • They also make you submit your credit card # for a beta product, which is ridiculous. The game is so slow and hard to figure out. I guess I'm still holding out for the Sims On-line

  • There is one MMORPG that has been going for years now, Mac only. The graphics are probably not as 'evolved' as Lineage, but at least you can go where you like, you not stuck on that gridlike floor!

  • Way too old/clunky/and not fun. WW2 Online is supposed to be coming, but that game is (I think) still pretty buggy on PC. The only mac MMRPG that I'm thinking about dedicating my life to is Shadowbane [ubisoft.com]. They already have a mac beta; I'd assume the mac version will be released around the same time as the PC version, sometime this summer I hope.

Sure you can download it for free, but what you don't find out until you download 400 MB. and go through their slow-ass website, is that they want a friggen credit-card number to let you play. "30-day free trial (cancel anytime before trial expires and you won't be billed)" Yeah, right.

Today is a good day for information-gathering. Read someone else's mail file.
