An anonymous reader writes: In Malta, the Minister for the Economy and his officer have issued libel and filed precautionary warrants to freeze Journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia's bank accounts. This after she revealed the bordellogate scandal where the Economy Minister Chris Cardona and his aide Joe Gerada went to a Bordello in Germany. The chilling effect is that her bank accounts are frozen until the case finishes, which may be many years from now. Daphne was listed by Politico.eu as one of the 28 Journalists who are shaping and shaking Europe and who revealed the Panama Papers scandal Malta connection. The EU Minister involved Konrad Mizzi is still a minister one year after that scandal.
The European Federation of Journalists is also taking action on this case. “Daphne Caruana Galizia is facing blatant harassment and intimidation. The financial consequence of the legal action against her is totally disproportionate”, said EFJ General Secretary Ricardo Gutiérrez.
EFJ is submitting the case to the Council of Europe Platform for the Protection of Journalism.
