Apple To Expand Presence In Florida With New Miami Office

An anonymous reader quotes a report from 9to5Mac: Following moves of other tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft, Apple is reportedly set to open a new office space in a Miami suburb. This won't be the first corporate space for Apple in the city, but it will be larger than the existing office. Reported by Bloomberg, anonymous sources close to the matter say that Apple's new Miami office will be 45,000 square feet in the affluent Coral Gables suburb of Miami. It's not clear yet what part of Apple's business the new office will focus on but it will be larger than its existing small Miami office that handles Latin America and advertising operations. The specific property of the new Apple offices will be at The Plaza Coral Gables.

Taxation isn't theft, spending the money against the people's interests is.

Spending it against your interests in particular is justifiable if your interests are harmful to others. It's offsetting the harm you are doing.

It's more than just taxes and regulations. Quality of life for employees. Being able to actually afford a house. I just peeked on Zillow, the neighborhood Apple is going into has 1.6 to 2million dollar homes, but within biking distance are plenty of 900k and under homes. By comparison the 1960's cookie cutter house I live in is about 12 miles to the spaceship, and is worth 1.7m. It takes over an hour to traverse that distance by car during commute hours. I wish - but Apple tends to have other ideas than what their employees want. Consider the San Diego build out where the teams begged leadership to select a site anywhere but California - so where did they put it? San Diego. Apple isn't doing this because their employees get a better life - that's by accident. Otherwise Apple would have to actually own up to its part of the economic and ecologic damage it's caused in the Bay Area. Quality of life, in Miami? Have you ever been to Miami? Their traffic makes LA's seem tolerable by comparison. In addition to being absurdly crowded, it is miserably hot and humid during the majority of the year. And I'm saying that as someone who has lived in central Florida for most of my life.

Land hasn't been cheap in Florida in a long time. Maybe cheap compared to CA if you're earning CA wages, but once you come to Florida and start earning Florida wages, oh boy, you're in for a shock.

Magic Leap had headquartered in Miami and is floundering. They abandoned the consumer market in 2023 to chase corporate and industrial use cases. As they shed staff, Apple Vision offices will be open down the street to gather them up.

Crappy products are not the fault of all members on a team. Engineers specifically are hobbled by the constraints handed to them in terms of cost to build final product and cost to research the technology required. There would be lots of talent coming out of Magic Leap that reflects potential greater than the results delivered by the company's products.

Back when the muskrat "relocated" Tesla's headquarters to texas, Deer Creek all but revolted at the notion, and he got very, VERY few takers willing to move. He eventually had to give in and keep the old HQ open. I think he's just calling it a R&D campus or something now. But it's still open, operating, and packed to the brim.

Who would have thought that educated and skilled employees who can easily get jobs at other companies wouldn't want to give up their quality of life... and basic civil rights in
