  • every time I get excited and start using some proprietary technology it seems to either get restricted, discontinued, abused or some other undesirable restriction which results in me wasting time trying to move my data so I don't lose it. Why would anyone use this for anything valuable.

There's no journal app for iPad. Just the phone. There SHOULD be one for iPad, but not today. Agree on putting stuff into proprietary software. I use text files and EMACS for notes.
  • I would like Apple to release an administrative application that could completely remove unnecessary software. why do ordinary users' computers have to be full of all kinds of junkware from the factory, what never be used?

You can long-press on the Journal app and select 'Remove App' to uninstall it.

Which is what I swiftly did within seconds of discovering the thing just 2 minutes after the reboot.

If I want a journal app (which I don't), I'll take explicit action to get one. There's no need for Apple to push anything onto me.

  • ... record key moments in their lives.

Does this have an export function so people can use their geo-tags, images, audio, text for other purposes?

Why does a privacy-affirming business want people to be less private? There are 3 possibilities:

    • To sell the data
    • Building a social-media service (May also sell the data)
    • To provide government surveillance (eg. searching for CS-AM, proximity to a criminal event)
  • https://support.apple.com/kb/H... [apple.com] says v16.7.3 is also out for those still on v16. However, two iPhones' iOS v16.7.2 don't see it. Only v17.2. V17 is still buggy IMO. :(

    • Same here. My iPhone didn't see the 16.7.2 upgrade for a month. Still no 16.7.3. But 17.2 is already happily waiting for me to tap intstall.

I really getting tired of Apple's passive-agressive approach to force upgrading to new major versions.
