PSA: Update Your iPhone To iOS 15.6.1 For Two Major Security Fixes

Apple is advising iOS and iPadOS users to update to the latest software version to patch two security holes that could allow an application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. They also issued a patch for WebKit, the browser that powers Safari and all third-party browsers on iOS. For this vulnerability, Apple says that "processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution."

"With two major security fixes, we recommend all iPhone users update to iOS 15.6.1 immediately and all iPad users update to iPadOS 15.6.1," writes Chance Miller via 9to5Mac. "You can do so by heading to the Settings app, choosing General, then choosing Software Update."

According to TFA:

Both of these vulnerabilities impacted every iPhone and iPad model capable of running iOS 15.

Or more specifically:

Available for: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation)

So I guess it depends on what you consider to be an "old" iPad.

You understand, when a gadget becomes as outdated as possible, you can not sell it, or download the latest programs, why bring to such a situation, if you can use, sell, add a small amount of money and buy a newer? I checked that link and there is no mention of iOS 14. And that website saying, "Available for: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation)" means absolutely nothing as I asked about iOS 14. The way I'm interpreting it is that they're mentioning what devices can run iOS 15.6.1 and iPadOS 15.6.1.

As I said, I just want a clear yes or no answer. I don't want speculation. I could speculate based on what that site says, but it doesn't help one bit. And I find your response to be incredibly rude as I said: I don't want to be told "Just upgrade to iOS 15."

You want a Yes or No answer? Fine. If your current hardware cannot support the latest iOS update, then YES, you need new hardware.

Apple is not in the business of helping you navigate a mine field of known vulnerabilities with outdated operating systems. Neither is any other company in the same business. That would be the job of some 3rd party, and likely someone helping out the Government who doesn't want to spend billions upgrading their antiquated systems.
