Apple Launches Repair Program For Unresponding IPhone 11 Displays (9to5mac.com) 13

9to5Mac reports that Apple announced a repair program for "a small percentage" of iPhone 11s manufactured between November 2019 and May 2020 where the display stops responding to touch: The replacement program is exclusive to the regular iPhone 11 model and does not apply to the iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max. Users can check the Apple Support website to find out if their iPhone 11 is eligible for the replacement program using its serial number... Apple will replace the affected iPhone 11 for free.

The repair program covers affected iPhone 11 models for two years after the first retail sale of the unit. Apple may refuse free technical support for devices with physical damages.

Yes, because those places already paid for tech-support-free AppleCare.

If you add up the cost of an iPhone in those regions, it's equal to the US cost, plus the cost of AppleCare, plus taxes converted over to the local currency.

Just that instead of AppleCare also giving you tech support for the ent

      • This is modern day damage control for Apple to cater for countries with good consumer rights legislation. Basically, if Apple did not do this to make things seem "fair" then there would almost certainly be a gigantic push towards legislation in line with what other western countries provide, which would be carnage.

In the EU, 2 years is the legal minimum warranty period for electronics. Many EU countries allow customers to request a full refund from the retailer if a fault like this occurs. Even in count
    • It's not extending the base warranty. It only covers this one specific part, with one specific serial number range, with one specific issue. It's more akin to an automotive recall.
