Russian Watchdog Says Apple Abused Mobile App Market Dominance (reuters.com) 23
Russian competition watchdog FAS on Monday said that Apple has abused its dominant position in the mobile apps market through its App Store for iOS devices and will issue an order demanding that the company resolve regulations breaches. From a report: An Apple spokesman said the company plans to appeal against the FAS ruling. The Russian ruling comes against the backdrop of European Commission investigations into Apple and the App Store's rules, including requirements that app developers use its own in-app purchase system. The FAS cited the need to download apps for the Apple's iOS operating system via its App Store. It also said that Apple has unlawfully reserved rights to block any third-parties' apps from the App Store. The investigation by the FAS followed a complaint from cybersecurity company Kaspersky Lab, which had said that a new version its Safe Kids application had been declined by Apple's operating system.

Everyone knows Russia requires certain apps to be installed by default nowadays, and of course, well, Apple may not allow some kinds of behaviors those apps do, so of course Apple is bad.

Apple should be forced to open the device to other stores the owner of the phone chooses. A link on it's site to other stores, other corporations, other choices for apps. The owner of the phone should not be denied a choice where to buy software products for that phone, that is where the law is broken, what right does Apple have to lock people into it's store, to make going to another store as difficult as possible with a device the citizen owns and paid for, not something Apple has any right to control, th

They can not force Apple to allow third party stores because it would break the sandboxing and make the devices substantially insecure. Just look at home much happens on sideloaded APK's on Android devices, people just install garbage, and garbage installs more garbage, and unlike a PC, you can't just pop the hard drive out and scan it for malware.

You seem to be deliberately misinformed. There is a risk from third party applications but let's be honest you are making rather deceptive claims. (Ignoring the large fact that this is optional for users who own their devices rather than a company owning them). Google as a security measure not only validate software from within the play store they validate all applications. They are so proud of their results and transparent they publish them.

You realize that the malware more than likely will be installed in the internal memory of the phone, right?
Just because you can take out and scan the SD card does not mean you have the ability to mass scan like you would on a PC or laptop hard disk drive or SSD drive.
To test this theory try booting your phone without the card. If it wakes up at all, then that's not the only memory in the phone.

To be honest I was just just making a cheap shot at an Apple user over a one of my essential features. Removable storage is a killer feature and I wouldn't buy a device from any manufacture without one. Even my $50 8" Amazon Fire has 400gb of storage in it. I have sideloaded Firefox on it (That is actually Firefox , another reason not to go full Apple) and the Play store amongst others. The truth is my Data is important my Applications less so. To a phone with removable storage...and any other electrical device for that matter. The modern illusion that programs need to be preserved and data does not is nonsense. As is the belief that there is any real Android(or Samsung as their marketing department wants) Vs Apple argument...as much as it benefits Apple and Google.
Don't care which OS you use. I would choose Android over iOS it's simply better, but I really I find Apples hardware disappointing.

No, garbage cannot install more garbage on Android. Android isn't windows. Installing any app requires a deliberate effort on the end user's part. You're mostly making shit up in your post, but that is the most glaring problem. Just because Apple won't allow third party apps doesn't mean it's a bad idea. But you know what gets me as a person who has no love of Apple devices? I can't understand why people put up with it when there are viable alternatives.
I've heard Apple has a decent build quality to their devices, and that's a plus for me if true. But Android is so mature at this point it's a viable alternative to apple, I feel like there is a huge percentage of the population that tends to lean toward one or the other. Not just a niche subset that finds Android useful, but huge portion

Well that's at least part of a constructive comment to be sure. What is it about their platform that draws you to it?
Device quality as I mentioned was a plus in my books, but in terms of their platform, I personally find it more of a closed garden. You know, our way, or no way. You buy a device but you don't have the right to use it the way you want to (assuming your wants and needs live outside their predetermined limits).
I'd be open to hearing these sorts of arguments to be sure.

Not sure what point you are trying to make, maybe something about those without sin and all that, but really it looks like a country acting in its own interests. To honest I don't see why American watchdogs haven't acted against an Irish company screwing over American developers.
