Apple's Virtual WWDC Event To Kick Off on June 22 (macrumors.com) 26
Apple's virtual WWDC event will start on June 22, Apple said today. It will be hosted in the Apple Developer app and the Apple Developer website and it will be free for all developers. Apple does plan to hold a keynote event, presumably on June 22 when WWDC begins.

My real question is labs (Score:2)
It's pretty expected that Apple would stream WWDC this year, they were already doing that in past WWDC's anyway so that's not much of a difference...
The real question I have as a developer is, will they still do labs? I am really hoping they do some kind of remote video-conferencing with internal Apple developers to talk over particularly tricky issues.
They also have great UX labs for improving apps, so I hope they provide both services even if some kind of limited basis.

Which have no impact on their own, internal development. For example, in Catalina, they clearly never tested the Adaptive Brightness feature they enabled by default, because then they'd notice that it changes the color profile, and not just the brightness.
If you're a graphic designer, once a core market of theirs, this is beyond maddening and has to be disabled. In the morning or evening light, it can't decide where it wants to be, and it flickers back and forth between different profiles at about 0.5 Hz.

Guess the San Diego Comic Con was elitist too. IIRC they were forced to go to a lottery since they became too popular.
But still doesn't answer the question: how is a lottery elitist? Seems to me that's at least a little better than first come first serve, screw you if you didn't want to stay up til 4AM....
Better yet, tell me a better way to handle an event with a lot of demand but with a limited capacity. I'm sure SDCC would love to know too.

With WWDC, that is really not possible.
For just seeing presentations, sure, you can have any number of people with overflow rooms or even larger venues (though WWDC is already a very large convention).
In fact since they live stream most sessions you can have any number of people watching the conference...

The derogatory tone of this reply aside, can't say I disagree with it.
If your event is that big that it can't manage all potentially interested attendees, then you definitively should get more capacity - either a larger venue, a longer event time frame, or schedule sessions/areas of interest better, otherwise you might find you'll get less attendees in the future if they reasonably expect not to be able to attend (or you end up getting bad press) because of your "limited capacity".

I never encountered that, it was more that you had to buy it earlier and earlier until it was selling out instantly, then the next year they did a lottery. But anyone could get in if you were attentive (I attended for many years until they switched to the lottery, after which I shifted just going to side conferences at the same time).

I never encountered that, it was more that you had to buy it earlier and earlier until it was selling out instantly, then the next year they did a lottery. But anyone could get in if you were attentive (I attended for many years until they switched to the lottery, after which I shifted just going to side conferences at the same time).
There were definitively restrictions placed before the lottery (including limiting the size of "teams" allowed to buy tickets, among other things).

There were some limits but that's not the same as saying only "select" developers could get in, which was never the case. Now it is the case Apple probably issues some select passes to VIP companies, but that doesn't mean the average developer could not go if they wanted to (before the lottery, after which it is luck of the draw).

They'd probably use both. ARM for the low power highly mobile all day user (like right now on Windows) and Intel for the power user. I expect things like the Macbook Air to move to ARM, while the Pros stay on Intel. And the iMac and Mac Pro will likely stay on Intel as well.

Only. I seem to remember not too long ago (maybe last year) when it was said that a "phone" processor would "never" be as fast as a notebook.
That said, we've only seem Apple's ARM chips on phones and tablets. Be extremely interesting to see just how fast they might be when tied to a laptop or desktop that's not constrained to fit a certain power budget and with a laptop/desktop

It will be broadcast on Youtube, but you can participate in interactive sessions through zoom (a $10 registration for that option).
Admittedly it is more of a niche compared to the Apple conference, but given that we even have had stories about the Burning Man on slashdot, it should be of interest to some geeks (on a Perl-powered site no less). I am hijacking the thread since I did try to post it as a story (after seeing the Burning Man "story" actually), but you know how it goes with slashdot stories nowadays...
