Apple Moves Annual Developers Conference Online Due To Coronavirus (cnbc.com) 16
Apple will move its annual developers conference, WWDC, online instead of hosting an in-person event, the company announced Friday. From a report: WWDC is Apple's annual developer's conference. The company typically announces new software features and sometimes hardware products as thousands of people travel around the world to San Jose, California for workshops about building software for iPhones, iPads, and Macs hosted by Apple employees. Apple said it would donate $1 million to organizations in San Jose to help with expected losses now that the event won't be held in the city.

So what exactly is the point of cutting off travel to Europe?
IMHO, it's a purely political move by the US administration. Likewise the references to the "chinese" or "foreign" virus. And how the US administration can ban flights from Schengen countries, but the UK is fine given all our government has done so far is say "old people are going to die" and "wash your hands a lot".

What do you not understand about flattening the curve, about every reduction in possible infection vectors mattering?
Anyone who says this or that measure is pointless, that actually does reduce the number of infections in any way, is simply not treating the pandemic seriously.
Instead the question you should be asking, is why not shut down all air travel for two weeks. Look for domestic air travel to be curtailed shortly.

Cutting off travel to Europe is the first thing that should have been done by Europe itself. Fast and hard isolation of travel lets us flatten the curve. Wuhan is in was in better shape than France and Italy at this point, in terms of trending the number of cases in the right direction.
Failure to test, just on a data collection standpoint alone, is a Katrina level of failure from our government. It's difficult for doctors and epidemiologists to take correct action if there is no data.

Normally I attend WWDC.
In past years Ive not had a ticket, just gone to the area to meet other people. So to me that's the part I'm more sad about, that I won't get to meet with in person and talk to people I otherwise don't see.
The other aspect of WWDC that is the bigger deal for a lot of people to miss out on is the labs they offered - where you talked to Apple employees working on various product subsystems and got to give direct feedback, or get help on some particularly vexing issue. So I guess maybe
