Apple Moves Annual Developers Conference Online Due To Coronavirus (cnbc.com) 16

Apple will move its annual developers conference, WWDC, online instead of hosting an in-person event, the company announced Friday. From a report: WWDC is Apple's annual developer's conference. The company typically announces new software features and sometimes hardware products as thousands of people travel around the world to San Jose, California for workshops about building software for iPhones, iPads, and Macs hosted by Apple employees. Apple said it would donate $1 million to organizations in San Jose to help with expected losses now that the event won't be held in the city.

Do we really need a separate post for each big tech company that cancels some event due to coronavirus? There's really nothing new to add and the stories are just going to get flooded with shit posts because of it.

At this point it would be bigger news if some major developer conference actually did proceed. But you do you Slashdot. Slow news week I guess.

That's exactly what's happening here! Apple will have their annual developers conference anyway! But online!

  • Normally I attend WWDC.

In past years Ive not had a ticket, just gone to the area to meet other people. So to me that's the part I'm more sad about, that I won't get to meet with in person and talk to people I otherwise don't see.

The other aspect of WWDC that is the bigger deal for a lot of people to miss out on is the labs they offered - where you talked to Apple employees working on various product subsystems and got to give direct feedback, or get help on some particularly vexing issue. So I guess maybe
