Apple To Release Three 'iPhone 11' Models This Fall, Report Says (9to5mac.com) 93

Similar to last year's introduction of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, Apple will release three new 'iPhone 11' models this fall, news outlet 9to5Mac reported on Tuesday. From the report: The new iPhones will feature the Apple A13 chip, internally known by its platform codename Cebu, model T8030. According to people who've seen the devices, all three iPhone 11 models will still feature a Lightning port, contrary to some speculation that they would be moving to USB-C after the change on iPad Pro last year. The 'iPhone 11' models are known as D42 (iPhone12,3) which will replace the iPhone XS; D43 (iPhone12,5) which will replace the iPhone XS Max; and N104 (iPhone12,1) which will replace the iPhone XR. D42 and D43 will have a 3x OLED Retina display, while N104 will still feature the 2x Liquid Retina display just like the current generation. All three iPhones will feature the same screen resolution as their predecessors.

    • Meh. The big upgrades are not in every new version. Everyone is waiting for next year for that.

      My iPhone 5 is 5 years old, still up to date, and will survive just fine until next year.

      • I think people miss that fact. Just because a new model is released you don't need to jump and buy it.

        Yes the new version will have new features. For myself I normally keep my phone until the OS isn't upgradable anymore. But that is mostly due to work, and the stuff I use my phone for does require updated security.

        Some people feel that the need to upgrade every year, others will only get the next major number or the S version that comes out a year later.

      Yeah... Apple's iPhone release schedule is so predictable at this point that it's really only news if if they decided NOT to release new phones in Q4 this year.

      They really need a new "SE" model for people who want a cheaper phone with a smaller screen, but I guess that there isn't much profit in that.

      • I just want an SE with a full screen and no bezel. It'd be the perfect phone.

      • Lately most people if wanting a budget iPhone have been getting 6S's the SE models fit niche place. Really too Niche. Our work gave use SE on-call phones only for us to never use them, and we forward the number to our cell phones.

      I know a lot of well paid professional accountants, financial analysts, etc, who have iPhone 6's and 7's and every one of them says they aren't interested in getting a new model solely due to the prices. Will die hard Apple fans who work in technology will be about the only customers from here on out?

        It all started when carriers moved away from subsidized upgrades every two years and started "financing" through monthly payments. People said "ohhh that monthly finance charge was just built into your bill before"... accept it wasn't because my bill never when down , even after switching carriers. I used to renew my contract every two years, sell my two year old phone back and just about break even.

        So i say fuck you, you want to sell phones then you shouldn't have gotten greedy. I have three lines on my

      There really hasn't been any compelling innovation for a long time much less any reason to upgrade since the iPhone 6 form-factor change. The only reason to upgrade now is that the iPhone6 isn't supported anymore, not sure what you're getting for the enormous price hike in buying one of the latest ones though.

        Really? My 6+ has the latest iOS. All my apps are getting updates just fine.

        And I have a headphone jack - the primary reason I haven't upgraded.

    As long as they keep using their own ports and cables I'll never jump on board their cash grab. Apple as a company is a joke and over price hardware just for giggles.

      • What's your point? I still prefer phones with USB-C over proprietary any day. I don't care if Amazon sell that proprietary cable for $5, I don't want to be stuck with it and I don't want corporations to continue to make products using proprietary charging cables.

      • Can we mod you +1 stating the obvious? Yes manufacturing a product that already exists as an accessory to another popular product is basically the answer you get when you look up "cash grab" in the dictionary. It's definition 2. Definition 1 is making a customer hostile business decision in the effort to suck even more money out of your blind loyal base.

      These kinds of complaints are just a joke. If Apple announced USB-C on these new iPhones, you wouldn't be switching for some other semi-manufactured reason related to your dislike of Apple.

      It's not like USB-C has been ubiquitous on a shit ton of other low-priced consumer electronics, either. There's still a metric fuck ton of electronics using micro-USB which is awful in its own right.

        I'm just happy as long as it will have a local browseable file system, a micro SD card slot, a headphone jack, will allow you to use apps while talking on the phone, no display notch, the ability to install apps without requiring another separate login to an app store, and be waterproof.

      • I've been procrastinating on replacing mine, waiting on USB-C, as I rarely upgrade phones and wanted something that would non-proprietary, ideally. I like my iPhone well enough but it doesn't mean Apple isn't over priced and proprietary in ways Sony used to think it could get away with.

  • I have had Android phones/tablets since 2011. I bought an iPad Pro this past year as my first Apple product since a 1st gen iPod touch, and was actually considering switching to an iPhone as Google vs. Apple has basically become Coke vs. Pepsi at this point. Apple lost a sale once it was confirmed that they would not be using usb-c. I'll probably hold onto my phone for one more year hoping Apple implements usb-c, but failing that I'll be getting another Pixel.

  • And Samsung just came out with their X. Too bad for them. This iPhone goes one higher. If you're Facebooking at X and you need more, where can you go? Nowhere.

  • Less profit for each device, but, sell more to make up the difference. Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa it's apple, are customers LIKE the higher prices LOL.

    • Apple isn't capable of selling to a mass market. They always focus on skimming off a higher-paying minority segment. They truly are the Buick company in a Chevy market.

  • Spouse wants a new phone, but we need one with a headphone jack.

      • That's what we have now, but are hoping for something with a better camera.

        Other than that the 6 is great. I put in one of the oversized aftermarket batteries in it and it just keeps ticking away.

    Even the announcement was boring. It's no wonder that Apple is pivoting to becoming a service company.
    • A fan-boi mod may think this is funny, but it probably a correct assessment. Or haven't you listenwd to Mr Cook recently?

  • At some point, right after the iPhone 11 release, they'll do a cheaper version for India and China, which you'll only be able to order online in the US and Canada, that will have a form feature similar to a 5 SE2.

    As shorthand, I'm calling it the 11 SE3. It won't be heavily advertised, it will be much cheaper (circa $500), and it won't have all the stupid stuff we don't care about, like the privacy-hating touch haptics or the facial scan unlock, but it will fit into your pants pockets or small night purse m
