The U.S. Justice Department has jurisdiction for a potential probe of Apple as part of a broader review of whether technology giants are using their size to act in an anti-competitive manner, Reuters reported on Monday, citing sources. From the report: The Justice Department's Antitrust Division and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) met in recent weeks and agreed to give the Justice Department the jurisdiction to undertake potential antitrust probes of Apple and Google, owned by Alphabet, the sources said. You are not typical of the average person, who uses either an iPhone or an Android phone or in the past, even a Windows phone, so the subject of the probe in question doesn't apply to you.
At heart is the fact that all the social media companies - Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter - have taken one side in the national conversations, and used their positions to censor views they do not like. To be fair, they spammed the site for Apple today because it's the big event day for Apple enthusiasts. It's special, just like back in the day when CompUSA had a special aisle for the Apple software and hardware ( and a whole big store for 'the rest of us') it't only fair to give Apple a smidgin of time once in awhile.
Besides, this is the negative story that Apple doesn't want here. I wouldn't group it with the slashvertisements.

While we're at it, AT&T & Verizon until they are T-Mobile/Sprint sized, or allowing them to retain their current sizes in exchange for hardline ISP equivalent data caps with no overages, contractually fixed monthly fees and an end to current billing practices.

At this time, America, if not the west, would be smart to change corporate taxes.
First drop all tax breaks. That includes taxes that companies pay to other nations.
Secondly, tax at say 20%, UNLESS company is based in said nation, and are regarded as being vital to your nation, as in, the majority of work is in your nation.

Not being one of their worshipful cadre of zealots, no, it hadn't hit my radar.
Of course, a lot of sites on such 'info dump' days then put them all into a "Big Announcements from Apple Today" thread so a) fans can find all their apple news in one place, and b) people who don't give a shit about apple don't have to wade through it to find their usual news.
But y'know, since slashdot is so new at this 'internet news' thing, maybe they'll eventually learn.

Google - Largest search engine which has tweaked its algorithms to push down white supremacist and related sites.
Facebook - has kicked off several well-known white supremacists and others who push fake narratives, anti-semitic/racist postings, and related postings which are intended to single out one specific group of individuals for repeat

All the companies you listed claim to be platforms, as opposed to publishers. If they're that, it's not their job to determine what is or isn't hate speech. Yeah, it's one thing to flag content that directly calls for violence or criminal activity. But beyond that, different people have different opinions - from white supremacy to black supremacy to muslim supremacy to LGBTQ supremacy, and if these companies are gonna kick off any group of those, then they should stop pretending to be a platform.

I am against government busting stuff up, but lots of people I know would switch out of iPhone if they could stay be within iMessages. I think we ought to encourage people to voluntarily switch to a end-to-end messaging systems run by non-profit foundations -- like Signal or Telegram. Ideally the non-profit running it would change every 5 years. Why can't wiki or mozilla host messaging servers?
People shouldn't trap themselves to keep buying Apple products for fear of losing access to all the previous stuff they bought such as movies or music.
