Steve Jobs Joins House of Wax 49

Hugh Pickens writes writes "The LA Times reports that Steve Jobs is about to join Barack Obama, Jackie Chan, Nicole Kidman, and Mozart at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, the tourist attraction famous for creating hauntingly lifelike sculptures of famous people. The model of Jobs, to be unveiled to mark the first anniversary of Jobs' death, is based on pictures taken of the tech innovator during a 2006 Fortune magazine shoot and shows the Apple Inc. cofounder in a relaxed position, arms crossed loosely over his chest, with a pair of silver-rimmed Lunor glasses perched on his face and wearing a black cotton turtle neck, Levi 501 jeans and New Balance trainers. The company says a team of artists spent three months working on the wax figure, inserting each strand of hair one by one into the wax head using a forked needle, and using fine silk threads to recreate the subtle veining in the whites of his eyes. The figure will remain at the Historical and National Heroes attraction of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong through November 26, before travelling on to Madame Tussauds Bangkok and then Madame Tussauds Shanghai."

I'm usually don't like art but this time I have to give credit. That wax figure is simply amazing, I've seen other ones but I think this is the best wax figure ever.

Why is it so lifelike? It's the real Steve Jobs.

Seriously, Madame Tussauds was so worried that Apple would file a "Look and Feel" lawsuit that they decided it was safest to use Steve Jobs' corpse rather than wax lookalike.

When viewing the art, you should still keep your hands on your wallet.

Also, this version of Jobs works great with your current eyes. However, they will be upgrading it next year, forcing you to to use smaller, more symmetric eyes. You can buy a special pair of adapter glasses for $30.

    • That is because they obtained patent licenses for Jobs's Reality Distortion field.
    • It's magical. This changes everything, again.

Until a new slightly taller and lighter wax figure is released next year.

Pose him with a Galaxy S3 in hand.

No, given Steve's legendary temper tantrums, posing him with an angry face and getting ready to stomp on a Galaxy S3 would be more in character. I am a minimalist myself and I admire the guy's eye for design and his nose for market opportunities but he definitely had anger management issues and he seems to have been a champion grudge holder. A thousand years ago these qualities would have made him a fine Viking beserker warlord, today they make you a top CEO...

  • I don't know if they even had to wait for him to die... But he has been at the Mexican House of Wax for many months already.

  • ...man, thats a bad joke.

    Is old Bill in there?

  • It's far too much detail on the surface. TheSteve wouldn't like it. They should simple do a wax image of a black turtleneck folded, on a pair of folded jeans, with a pair of thin glasses neatly folded on top.

... with the text "First Class A*hole" carefully embroidered in large, friendly letters.

  • I expect it to be made in a foreign country with an abysmal record on human rights by forced student labour paid 9/day.

Will it be very angular like Max Headroom or will the wax museum get a licensing deal for the rounded edges?

yeah whatever. Whats important is if they used rounded corners in their design, they are soooo screwed.

Also, did you know the figurine was animated, but the battery inside wore down and they don't design those things to be opened up and have their batteries replaced, so..

I heard they're doing the android devs too, and the android devs looked awesome, but they insisted on skinning the android guys with an extra layer of solid lead shaped into a bad kmart/walmart imitation of Steve's outfit "because the customers like it that way".

I wish the almighty GOOG would lay the smack down on that practice. I currently have a nice almost entirely stock android phone at this time and I'm worried about upgrading to "nicer" phone with the unfortunate crippling disability of an unremovabl

  • Some of these fuckers actually belong there. No, I don't mean their wax likenesses; I mean them.
  • They already have Ghengis Khan, Hitler, Stalin, Simon Cowell. He'll feel right at home.

I wonder if he'll be placed in a disabled parking spot [1]

  • a while back after Steve Jobs died a company called inIcons tried to market a (also remarkably lifelike) action figure based on Steve Jobs.

Apple responded by threatening legal action against the company.

How is a wax figure, soon to be pawed over and posed with by thousands of tourists, some of whom will no doubt sneak the "I'm giving this wax figure a blowjob" pose for their iphone-wielding friend, any better than that? Why isn't Apple all over this?

I always get a kick out of people who get confused when the real world doesn't live up to the mental cartoon they've created.

  • Love him or hate him, almost everyone knew of him.
I guess he held copyright over himself, and it expires a year after he dies? :P
  • Since the Apple fan crowd is so fanatic it seems weird that there is not yet a Realdoll variant of Steve.

  • The travel/shipping expenses on his wax statue is going to be extreme. They will have to lease a new shipping truck every six months [thenextweb.com].

  • Does the statue have rounded corners?

  • I went to the Wax Museum at San Francisco recently, wasn't very impressed - most are not even posed as exciting as store mannequins, usually clumped together with others in a similar backdrop. Not to mention the lack of Star Trek actors (sigh).

The only one that stood out was the Norman Rockwell, done as a representation of the triple self portrait painting. I would like the see these figures in action poses - it would be way more interesting to see Harrison Ford in mid whip-crack or Steve Balmer in "deve
