Pixar never used Macs for animation or rendering, they use Linux based workstations and render farm. All the major effects and animation studios switched to Linux long ago. Some studios use Windows too. The only function Macs provide is a general office computer (mail, web, excel) and folks are using MBP laptops. Nobody I know who works in the industry uses FCP. I can attest to first hand knowledge that the following companies use Linux: Digital Domain, Disney Animation, Double Negative, DreamWorks, ILM, Rh

Sixteen grand for a machine like this is still dirt cheap for a high end animation studio like Pixar or Ghibli.

There actually used to be MacRenderMan. I'd be surprised if they never used it for anything.
