DeviceGuru writes "On September 1st, the Ubuntu development project issued the beta version of Ubuntu 10.10 — aka Maverick Meerkat — as a step toward achieving a stable release by October 10th. This quick test of the beta by LinuxTrends suggests that the new version of Ubuntu might be 'the most user-friendly, full-featured desktop Linux distribution ever.' In addition to showing Ubuntu 10.10's installation process, desktop, menus, and list of default applications, the review touts the benefits of using Ubuntu Tweak to add more functionality and modify various GNOME settings and attributes."

  • Though personally I wouldn't like to clutter the desktop as much. I like how 'clean' the desktop looks - I think i'll give Tweak a try.

      Here's the ultimate tweak: sudo apt-get purge gnome-desktop-environment && sudo apt-get install xmonad

        xmonad reminds me of the good old days when you had to use a CLI to get anything done.

        Yes I know linux is still mostly like that but...

  • It's rather interesting to read through the article and watch the (surprisingly beautiful) default desktop turn into a 1990's abomination.
    • Near the end the author states: "Naturally, your tastes will differ from mine. The great thing about Linux — and Ubuntu is no exception — is that your customization options are virtually unlimited."
