+ - SPAM: Apple Dominates 'Premium PC' Market

itwbennett writes "'Macs — not iPhones, mind you, but Macs — are dominating one of the market segments in which they compete, making up almost 91 percent of sales,' writes Josh Fruhlinger in a recent blog post. 'That segment, in keeping with the company's elitist image, is the so-called premium PC market. Premium certainly sounds fancy, but in fact it comprises computers over $1,000.' Not so long ago, $1000 got you an entry-level machine. Today the average computer sells for $701, while the average Windows machine sells for only $515. Still, Macs only make up 8.7% of PC sales, notes Fruhlinger. But is that really such a bad position to be in? Consider an Apples to Apples, that is, Macs to iPhones comparison: the iPhone takes only a sliver of the phone market but a much larger share of the profits."
