Apple Introduces New Polishing Cloth For All Devices, Sold Separately for $19 (9to5mac.com) 105
Alongside the new MacBook Pros, Apple has added a new first party polishing cloth to the Apple Store. The new polishing cloth is a soft white with an embossed Apple logo. From a report: Apple does not specify what material it is made out of. It's priced at $19.00 and Apple says it's compatible with every single device they make.

You get better contrast out of those shiny screens, while matte screens always have a bit of scattering.
Apple offers a $1000 "nano-texture glass" upgrade on their $5000 Pro Display XDR that addresses the scattering issue. The same upgrade is $500 on some of the iMacs, though I can't remember which.

Interestingly, you've got it backwards. Apple does think matte is better, and has historically offered matte as an upgrade on their pro lines. In fact, this is one of the only cloths rated as safe to use with the $1000 "nano-texture glass" upgrade on the $5000 Pro Display XDR [apple.com]. The Pro Display XDR has a matte finish to begin with, but the upgrade makes it even matte-ier, or something, I guess? Most of the reviews seem to indicate it's worth it if you're in that professional space, so I won't harp on it too much.
Anyway, Apple's documentation indicated that the nano-texture glass could be damaged if you used the wrong cloth on it, so that was a PR black eye for them when the $1000 upgrade came out a few years ago. Having more cloths that are safe to use is a good thing, even as it's silly that it's necessary in the first place.

None of their smartphones, tablets, laptops or all-in-ones offer such a thing, that includes all of them with the 'Pro' moniker.

And I'm pretty sure (though I could be wrong) that is the only product they offer a matte screen on, long ago they switched away from matte to shiny screens exclusively for their laptops and all-in-one desktops.

...hence why I said “historically”. It was an upgrade they offered for a number of years on their high-end laptops after they introduced glossy screens. I never suggested it was widely available today, just that Apple does seem to recognize that matte is superior. Also, the Pro Display XDR is not the only product to feature nano-texture glass as an upgrade today. The 27” iMac offers it as well, though it costs $300 instead of $1000.

More like they care more about profit than quality. All of their screens used to be matte, but as the industry switched to glossy, they eventually stopped holding out with the “matte is better” line, likely because they realized that most people prefer the oversaturated look of the cheaper, glossy screens. Could it be that the reporting on cause of death is polluted by the knowledge that the person is vaccinated ?
Every un-vaccinated person is labelled as "Died of COVID", while the vaccinated are "complications associated with COVID", thus the actual cause of death on the certificate is different, so the numbers are scewed.

I've gotten branded guitar polishing cloths in this price range for a very long time. Granted, generic microfiber, like almost all of them are, is cheaper, but sometimes you just wanna grab a cloth at the store and not wait for shipping.

You can pick up three 12x10 microfiber cloths at Pep Boys for about $5.

That's a good point. My wife has an iPhone and MacBook. Different connectors (and not compatible with USB C).

This is the entry level cloth. Sure, it's compatible with every Apple device -- but if you want a truly special cleaning experience you'll wait for next year's range of specialized $49 cloths shaped for particular devices. There's nothing like the ease of use of being able to clean the screen in one perfectly sized pass with no wasted motion.

You sort of get accustomed to it and not notice until it gets really bad then you look and think "this phone is disgusting, how did it get into that state", and give it a good clean. The whole process repeats every couple of months!
