And best of it all - you can have a real PowerPod [griffintechnology.com] for just USD 24.99. Yeah, Griffin has already taken the name for their iPod car charger. This is one of the lamest April Fool Days I can remember, they don't even try.

Apple today announced the PowerPod, the world's smallest portable video and music player with integrated video and digital camera. The device can hold over 1,000 songs or 100 movies and will be available in the summer of 2004 for $699 from the Apple Store and Apple Authorized Resellers throughout the U.S. The PowerPod is a half-inch thick, encased in an ultra-portable lightweight durable body and is available in 20, 40 and 60GB models.

The PowerPod features a hi-resolution 5 x 3.5-inch touch-screen LCD and a 1.2 megapixel integrated digital camera, users can record and view movies while on the go or perform wireless video messaging while connected via a WiFi network. The dual external speakers can be used for audio playback for movies or for private listening with an external headphone jack. It also features an integrated microphone for video conferencing.

With a 400Mhz RISC processor the USB 2.0 and FireWire handheld runs on the new Mac OS Portable OS. Basically, a stripped down version with PDA and Video functionality intended primarily for Video recording and playback, instant messaging, web browsing, email and address book.

Anyone else notice the perfect shadows and glares in the image? This has gotta be CG. Real Pictures never have perfect shadows, ambient light and all. Not to mention that the static buttons change orintation of the text depending on if the device is upright or on its side. Im sorry the 'Menu' and 'Disp' button will not change, and I dont belve those are part of the display. This is a poorly excuted joke.

By the way, Gmail not a joke, says Google [computerworld.com] .

If they can do what they say, I'd definitely consider the service. I'd be more than willing to pay for a non-ad-infested if I could access it via IMAP as well as through a web interface. Especially if it had some really great anti-spam features and/or procmail filter access.

Does anyone know how to move downloaded e-mail back up to an IMAP server?

Then I would recommend news.google.[your country code or com here] or K5 or The Register or any of the major world publications (NYT, BBC, etc). Crawl them all, you'll find the news that would normally be posted here..

Honestly, if you're here for news, you're here for yesterday's news (thats how /. works, it's a repost service) and if you're here for news on April 1, you haven't been here for a year.

Usually I check Fwapdash twice an hour (addict, I know.. and not CmdrTaco, if he checked in that often, we wouldn't have dupes). On April 1, it's twice for the whole day. Deal with it. There's no news today.

I can't tell if it's for real (and I don't really care). But if a song is about 2.5 MB or so how the hell does one get a movie in 25 MB? I vote fake or written by an imbecile (or both).

Old programmers never die, they just hit account block limit.
